Project Overview

Cladding at Z Dinsdale was in poor condition, and an extension to the building was required for storage and staff use. DPSL managed the works as main contractor. The site remained live and open to the public for the duration of the works, with minimum disruption to their day-to-day operations. During the recladding work, rotten timber framing was discovered that needed to be safely removed and replaced. The building was extended by three metres on the left hand side of the shop. This involved construction of a concrete nib under the wall to meet NZ building code. A full fit out of the extension was carried out including sub-trades such as electrical and plumbing. Minor roof works were carried out to bring the existing roof up to standard, including internal gutter repairs and flashings.

Challenge met

Transforming the cladding and extending the structure at Z Dinsdale presented several unique challenges that required careful planning and precise execution. The primary challenge was maintaining the functionality of the site while extensive work was being carried out. As the site remained open to the public throughout the project, ensuring minimal disruption to day-to-day operations was crucial. This required meticulous coordination among various teams, including construction, electrical, and plumbing sub-trades, to work efficiently and safely within the constraints of an active site. Another significant challenge was the discovery of rotten timber framing during the recladding process. This unforeseen issue required an immediate response to remove and replace the compromised sections while maintaining the structural integrity of the building. The replacement work had to be performed with precision to align with the existing structure and to comply with New Zealand building codes. Ensuring that the new cladding seamlessly integrated with both the old structure and the new extension was critical to maintaining the aesthetic and structural cohesion of the building.
